The NYS Environthon is a competition for High School students in forestry, soils, wildlife, aquatics, groundwater, and an oral presentation related to groundwater (this year’s special topic).
Please volunteer to be an Envirothon Judge on Wednesday, June 2. Fred has judged many Envirothon competitions and knows that anyone in the membership would be a great asset to the program.
We are looking particularly for judges from the mid-lower Hudson
Valley, New York City, and Long Island; areas traditionally under-represented on our judging panels.
Meals and lodging (at the college dorms) will be covered by the
Envirothon, you would need to cover your travel expenses, though I’m hoping to set up a couple of car pools.
Here’s how the day plays out:
(schedule subject to minor adjustments)
7:30-9:00 – Judges’ check-in
8:00 – Breakfast
9:00-11:00 – Judges’ Training
11:00-12:00 – Lunch
12:00-4:00 – Judging Oral Presentations
5:00 – Dinner
To be a successful judge, you do not need to be a groundwater expert. You are looking for the students to present a plan that makes sense and shows creativity. It should be clear that they have used references and addressed the major points on the provided score sheet.
Please contact Fred if you are interested in this program or if you know someone else you think might be interested.
