THV is accepting proposals for activities, discussions, panels, workshops, and extended field experiences until March 1.
We’re especially interested in proposals that:
1. Examine ways for teachers and/or site staff to approach controversial issues.
2. Observe the 150th anniversary
of the Civil War by providing context and resources.
3. Practice ways to teach history as ongoing and changeable, rather than a series of unrelated events.
4. Explore how local or regional decision makers try to reconcile divergent views.
Get more information and down load proposal guidelines.

First teacher ed lesson plans added
The Hudson River as the Context for Learning is the first professional development unit available through THV’s online library. It was developed by Scenic Hudson’s education coordinator Susan Hereth, and we appreciate her generosity.
Four self-guided modules offer teachers, environmental and museum educators, and others tools for using place-based techniques.
1: Understand the Pedagogy of Place-based Education — use the Internet along with selected articles and books, to gain knowledge and understanding of place-based education.
2: Increase Knowledge of the Natural History of the Hudson River — learn to interpret key features of the River and create a resource list to use in your own work.
3: Identify & Explore Related Resources – examine and choose River-related lessons to experiment with. 4: Develop a Plan to Use Place-based Education — study ways to introduce and build upon place-based ed at your school or site. |
