New York State’s First County Forest has two Environmental Education Assistant AmeriCorps Member position open for May – August of 2017. The position is administered through the Genesee County AmeriCorps Volunteer Program and are located at Genesee County Park & Forest in East Bethany, NY. AmeriCorps members must be at least 17 years old (there is no maximum age) and a US citizen. Environmental Education Assistants develop, organize, plan and lead environmental education programs to audiences of all ages in a wide variety of settings under the guidance of park staff. Job duties include: – Assisting the Environmental Educator with programs for schools, senior groups, scouts and the public. – Providing customer service to park visitors and program participants. – Working on volunteer and park events. – Writing articles for the parks seasonal newsletter. – Marketing of park events, programs and resources. AmeriCorps members earn a stipend while serving plus an education award grant that can be used to repay student loans or cover future college costs.
This position requires 300 hours of service between August 2017 and December 2017. Position pays a $2,000 stipend plus a $1,221 education award.
