Community/Member Events Coordinator

Position:  Community @ Member Events Coordinator.   Position Summary:  Part-time, 10 month, 29 hours per week, some evenings and weekends.  Helmer Nature Center in Rochester, New York is seeking an enthusiastic and organized individual to implement and coordinate its public programming activities (family events, festivals), maintain volunteer relationships and membership correspondence and prepare quarterly newsletter for print and general office duties.  The nature center is owned and operated by the West Irondequoit Central School District as both an outdoor classroom and an environmental resource for the community since 1973.

Location:                      Helmer Nature Center, Rochester, NY 14617 (located in the Town of Irondequoit)

Reports to:                   Nature Center Director

Salary:                 $13.00–14.00/hour, NYS Teachers Retirement System


Event planning, fundraising, communications, marketing, public relations, media relations, and/or customer service experience a plus.    

Strong organizational, verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail.

Enthusiastic, friendly personality

Ability to multi-task, prioritize effectively and adapt to change.

Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of personalities

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Knowledge of Windows operating system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher), email, social media and photo editing. 

Commitment to the Nature Center’s mission, and appreciation for the environment and education

Must be able to periodically lift heavy, awkward items 

Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Job Responsibilities Include:

Schedule, budget, plan and implement the Nature Center’s community/member events and festivals. 

Coordinate and maintain community volunteer relationships 

Maintain membership correspondence and files.

Edit, print and mail quarterly newsletter

Perform general office duties.
